We are culinary educators, party hosts, and seasoned personal chefs with the belief that food is fundamental to good health and lifestyle, but it doesn’t have to be stuffy, expensive, or difficult. We also believe that with a little help and guidance, anyone can cook.

Whether you need to learn the fundamentals of healthy, flavourful cooking, want to host a one-of-a-kind culinary party, or are simply looking for a little assistance with improving your eating habits, the chefs at Mortar and Pestle can help you develop your skills for a lifetime of great cooking.

Simple Season - Fall 

 

A great place to start, our Simply Seasonal menus are designed to cover all of the basic culinary skills and techniques. Recipes are great for quick weekday meals or combined to build a more elaborate dining experience. Each 3 course meal includes one starter, an entrée with two sides, and something sweet or savory to finish. Food for the evening generally costs an average of $40.00, depending on how well stocked your pantry is. 

 

Chili Out

 

Coleslaw, Vinaigrette or creamy  
Onion ringsthick sliced red onion battered and fried crisp
 
Chiliground beef, tomatoes, green peppers, chili’s and cumin simmered slowly
 
Cornbread muffinsrich and buttery

Wheatberry salad, sesame seeds, light vinaigrette, cranberry and currants
Basmati pilaf, toasted rice, walnuts, shallots

White bean Cassoulet, beans, tomatoes, peppers, onion and garlic simmered slowly

Eggs-travaganza

Baby Spinach salad, with Creamy yoghurt, egg yolk, almond, and cranberry dressing
Frittata, Eggs, onions, peppers, zucchini, Prosciutto ham, herbs and Parmigiano cheese
Baked Alaskan, Ice cream (eggs and cream), sponge cake (eggs, flour, milk), meringue (eggs and sugar)

 



Weekend Meals

Mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette and goat cheese toasts

Smoked Baby back ribs, fresh spice rub and home-made barbeque sauce
Shoe string potatoes, fried golden crisp with pink sea salt
Green beans with butter and bacon
Baked Apple pie, crispy dough, sweet apples with cinnamon and brown sugar, Old cheddar and whipped cream



Caribbean

Mini Jamaican patties, yellow dough, ground beef, Jamaican spices
 
Callaloo, Spinach, salt pork, onions and chicken stock with crab

Advanced Inspirations
 
Join the chef for an introduction to more advanced skills from the finer side of food and cooking. Explore a single ingredient or technique, such as coffee and cacao or dumplings in multiple forms, learn to brine meats, make sausage, slow smoke at home, or try your hand at cheese or homemade pastas. Some experience and comfort in the kitchen is recommended.
